The Second Coming

(I have a lot of questions I would like to ask Jesus.)

Yesterday, I woke up at 8 a.m. and drank a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Then I read the headlines on my smartphone while taking a shit. There is a foreigners-only club in the town of Siheung which caters to Vietnamese clientele. The cops got a phone call informing them that drugs were being used by the customers. So the Korean police raided the joint and found nine ecstasy pills. After their discovery, they forced everybody to take a piss test, and ten people popped positive. On top of that, five of the patrons were illegal immigrants, and they are now in detention awaiting deportation.

I ate hash browns for breakfast as I watched Fox News. There was another mass homicide in America, this time in small city of Allen, Texas. Eight people were killed by an insane gunman named Mauricio Garcia. Mauricio is dead, too, after being shot by the police during the middle of his unhinged spree. Mr. Garcia was in his thirties and lived with his parents. He was often seen by his neighbors sporting the uniform of a security guard.

I honestly believe that the best days of the United States are in the rearview mirror. We’ve become the new Babylon. Our cities are shitholes. Poverty is rampant. And the fascists are now firmly in charge. But the citizens don’t care because they’re too busy shoving donuts and antidepressants into their big fat faces. Yet there is no reason for despair. All this nonsense has absolutely no effect on the Kingdom of Heaven. And that’s our true home, right? Can I get an amen?

I called my mother using Facebook Messenger.

She said, “Your sister is still sick.”

I said, “No kidding? It’s been over a week.”

“She’s even lost her sense of taste and smell.”

“Yikes, Mom. Those are Covid symptoms.”

She shook her head. “Sis went to the hospital, and they gave her the test. She’s clean.”

“So what’s the freaking problem?”

“Nobody knows. The doctor says it’s probably just a virus she picked up from work. He told her to eat soup and drink plenty of water.”

“Is her boyfriend ill, too?”

“No, he’s fine. But he did have another epileptic seizure the other day. It was so severe that Sis thought he was dying.”

“Holy crap. Isn’t there medicine for that?”

“He doesn’t have medical insurance.”

“Tell him to visit Charity Hospital.”

“I’ve said it to him a million times. However, he hates spending all day in the waiting room. Sometimes, it can take up to twenty hours just to see the doctor.”

“Twenty hours? You’re kidding, right?”

Mom frowned. “Son, I shit you not. Twenty hours if it’s a non-emergency.”

“But he’s an epileptic for Christ’s sake.”

“Doesn’t matter. Gunshot victims and heart-attack cases get first dibs.”

I shrugged my shoulders and sighed. “Well, that makes sense. I guess his spells won’t kill him.”

Later in the afternoon, I walked to church. The sermon was OK. We are still studying the Book of Isaiah. My pastor claims that we’re in the last days, and he is eagerly awaiting the return of Jesus Christ. He says that it’s going to be magnificent. And I believe him. I just hope that Jesus returns before I die. I have a lot of questions I would like to ask him, providing he’s in the mood to entertain my inquiries. He is the King of the Universe, so it’s not like he has to dance to my tune.

I ate dinner at 6 p.m. The Dragon Lady outdid herself. We had beef and shrimp and Chinese mushrooms. The meal was yummy.

  1. You’re not even in the USA, you’re lucky. Why even worry about what happens here? You’ve escaped. I wish I could, but I’m not married to a foreigner, so no countries would take us, we’re also poor and have a lot of white kids so that’s more strikes against us. Just watch it all collapse from a safer country. Enjoy the show!

    1. Like Dorothy said, there's no place like home. I'm thinking about returning in the future and getting a job at Waffle House. I shit you not.

  2. Turn off the news and avoid a few large cities and the US is still a great place. You don't need insurance to go to a hospital. You also don't need to wait 20 hours. It's called lazy.

    1. Hi, Dave. Good to hear from you again. I love my country, but I fear that she has been abandoned by God. Read Romans 1 and tell me that Paul isn't talking about us.

    2. Thanks. I'm a lurker. Usually don't post much. Too much writing at work!

I agree w/ you that we're in a bad spot. A good flood might help quite a bit! I'm just saying it's not as bad as many would have you think. There's still a lot of good left.

Ever read the book The Fourth Turning by Strauss and Howe? I think we're in a 4th Turning. We'll see how it plays out. I think there's still a good chance to hold off 1984!

    3. This isn't 1984. It's more of a transformation into a 3rd-world nation.

But the lowered standard of living is very much in keeping with 1984. Recall that Winston had trouble getting ahold of common items like razor blades.(He should have bought 1,000 Victory Blades while he still could!) Increasing levels of corruption, nepotism, and Might Makes Right political chicanery are what you would expect from an Inner Party disinviting the Proles to the jamboree..

I'm familiar with the Fourth Turning thing. Jim Quinn over at The Burning Platform is a big proponent of the theory. I bought the book too, but found the whole premise relies too heavily on "counting the hits and ignoring the misses"; that is, they focus heavily on historical events which seem to support their theory and just ignore the events that don't.

The real question is: is the rot and decline we see being deliberately engineered, or is it the result of random chance and the pressures of progress and increasing tech and yadda yadda, or what have you?

As a paranoid zek, my rubles are on the former while it appears both of you favor the latter.

    5. It's pretty much comes down to human corruption. In my opinion. But what do I know?

  3. God rained fire and brimstone on Sodom for a lot less than this nation is guilty of.

The Bible says Lot was "vexed" by the wickedness around him. I can relate.

    1. The remains of those two cities was actually found. They were burned to a crisp.

They probably never even saw it coming. Like a thief in the night.

    3. Yep. Destroyed in an instant.

  4. Hi Jack.
N-AcetylSystein (NAC) for your sister. It's a supplement and should be available OTC. 600mg daily is the recommended dose. You're welcome
